Greetings Bobtown! My name is Rick Menear and I’d like to welcome you to our website as well as give you some information about myself.
I grew up right here in Bobtown and graduated from Mapletown High School in 1993. I attended Penn State University - Fayette Campus before transferring and graduating from California University of PA with a B.S. in elementary education.
I moved to rural Stokes County North Carolina where I taught 8th grade math & science and high school math for 12 years. During this time in my career, I coached football, basketball and baseball at the junior high, junior varsity and varsity level. I have many great memories of student athletes, time spent in the classroom and on the court/playing field. I have maintained strong friendships with fellow teachers, coaches as well as students and their families that I will cherish for a lifetime.
I received my master’s degree in school administration from Radford University. In 2010, I became the assistant principal at South Stokes High School. I was named principal there in the fall of 2012. Finally, I was the principal at Piney Grove Middle School in Stokes County and served there before coming to Bobtown Elementary.
I met my lovely wife Christy while teaching in North Carolina and we have three children: Austin 16, Clay 11, and Ella 9. Christy is a special education teacher at Mapletown and our family is currently living in Bobtown. My family and I actively attend and participate in many church activities together.
When I am not in school I enjoy spending time hunting, fishing, trapping and coaching. I take great pleasure in teaching kids, my own included, the enjoyment of sports and the outdoors.
